Our backyard & alley. Due to the decade long drought, luscious lawns are a “no go”
Part of a row of abandoned houses across the street from the hospital
Stray dogs are a daily encounter here, often roaming the hospital grounds and leaving waste on campus. They are frequently injured or starving.
Local reservoir: a breathtaking respite from the otherwise bleak scenery. The Sacred Peaks stand stoically in the distance.
Helipad which sits down the street from our house. The chopper seemingly runs non stop to transfer unstable or overflow patient to Flagstaff (1.5hr drive), Phoenix (3.5hr drive), or even as far as Las Vegas. Hoping to be able to do transport runs.
Typical employee housing – situated in rows next to the hospital.

A look out just 2 minutes (driving) from the center of town. Miles of mesas reiterate the isolation.

Beauty in Brokenness. Abandoned buildings on the edge of the Nation turned into emotional murals as part of the Painted Desert Project.
